Sport at GSIS
‘A healthy mind resides in a healthy body'
As well as participating in PE lessons throughout the week, all students are encouraged to take part in at least one extra-curricular sporting activity.
As a school, we recognise the important role that sport plays in our students’ development: as well as helping to develop mental and physical toughness, sports are great for developing a pupil’s character and moral principles through fair play; the importance of teamwork and working together with peers and teammates is a life skill that will stay with them throughout life.
Also, a sporting context is a key learning environment for children, as they learn to respect authority, rules, teammates and opponents.
Pupil health and wellbeing is of paramount importance at Good Shepherd and a healthy relationship with sports helps them to manage their emotions.
Participation in sports and games also helps to build positive self-esteem in pupils,
Sports on offer include netball, basketball, soccer, taekwondo, tennis, athletics and swimming.
